This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to use investigative and critical thinking techniques to evaluate history and theory information and distil key themes and ideas.
Students explore the development of Western theatrical dance including the evolution of ballet, modern and contemporary dance in Europe and America throughout the 20th and 21st Centuries. Social, political and artistic movements and their impact on the development of current dance genres and styles will be studied along with the way in which key choreographers and dancers continue to respond to the world around them.
Students will also analyze, research and evaluate recent dance genres, styles processes and presentations to expand their understanding and provide further relevance to their own artistic practice.

All students must complete the pre-course assessment item (see Home Page on the left).

Assessment Items (See Details in Assessment Instructions) include:
• Major Research Assignment 1
• Major Research Assignment 2
• Oral Presentation - Presenters chosen by random selection the week prior (fairness and equity)

Study hours for this unit - 8-10 hours per week.


Attendance
• Students must attend 90% of lectures (unless a doctor’s certificate is provided in the case of illness)


Safety
• In case of fire or other emergency calmly exit by following me outside to an evacuation point., Remain with the group for your name to be checked.

Mobile Phone Etiquette
• Phones must be switched off and put away in bags for all lectures.

Assignments can be submitted on or before the published due date.

• Extension request forms must be submitted well before the due date and may or may not be granted (depending on the circumstances).
