This unit deals with the development of the required knowledge, skills and behaviours required to collect, record, analyse and interpret patient social, medical and dental histories and examinations.
The data is used to design an individualised dental hygiene treatment plan where evidence based treatment options are selected, to include the management of nonsurgical periodontal therapy and preventive interventions, constructed in consultation with dental and health professionals, to remain within the context of oral health care and dental hygiene practice.
Application of the Unit:
The application of knowledge and skills described in this competency unit may relate to functions such as providing information to patients or assisting in the provision of dental health care services.
Work at this level may require guidance and/or supervision, especially where provision of direct client services are involved.
Requires a state/territory regulatory determination regarding delegation and supervision.
This unit should be assessed after achievement of the following related competency unit:
HLTIN301A - Comply with infection control policies and procedures in health work
TAFEDH012 - Apply reflective practice and critical thinking and analysis in dental health
The unit should also be assessed in conjunction with competency unit(s) related to planning/delivery of the Advanced Diploma of Oral Health (Dental Hygiene).
